Wisconsin is a segregated state with high levels of incarceration for black and brown populations. This exhibition will allow participants to share their voices, visions, and ideas in an exchange with the outside world. It will define the act of art making as not only a creative past-time, but a life-saving tool of self-definition for those who are removed from society.

The exhibition will also introduce a broad audience to the complex problems of mass incarceration. Because the circumstances of captivity are hidden from view, the humanity of imprisoned individuals is often lost to statistics. After its opening run in Milwaukee in early 2023, the exhibition will travel to several other state venues.
